Commemorating Stories Through Music & Art
May - June, 2025
This series invites audiences to engage with the past and present through a tapestry of artistic expression and shared human experience. In collaboration with Kennesaw State University’s Museum of History and Holocaust Education, this series features a growing visual arts exhibition—including new commissions by Artist-in-Residence Alia Bensliman—that amplifies local refugee and immigrant stories. Concerts showcase powerful works by composers Lori Laitman, Jake Heggie, Caroline Shaw, and Laurence Sherr. Partnering with I-Rise Trenton, a local refugee support organization, the series extends beyond the stage with community dialogues and storytelling workshops. Dining partners further enrich the experience by highlighting global culinary traditions, fostering deeper cultural connections.

Words, Music, & Memory
Commemoration is a process that involves witness, preservation, interpretation, and performance. This ten-panel traveling exhibit and accompanying digital gallery guide highlights the links along the chain of commemoration that connect the past and the present and generation to generation.

Refuge or Refusal
Five key moments emerge as turning points in U.S. immigration policy: 1790, 1882, 1924, 1948, and 1965. This exhibit explores the impact of these turning points and the factors that influenced them, from global conflicts and economic conditions to cultural trends and social aspirations.

Compassion & Courage
Follow Artist-in-Residence, Alia Bensliman, as she adds six portraits of stories from local families in our community who have left their countries in search of a new home. These portraits will be turned into panels and a digital gallery to complement the two traveling exhibits from Kennesaw State University.
